The keypad features numbered buttons arranged in a circle around a fingerprint scanner at the center. 

Additionally, the bright green light that illuminates the keys when touched makes it easy to use, even in low light. One of the standout features is the adjustable auto-lock timer, which we set to automatically lock the door 30 seconds after closing. The Ultraloq also includes an auto-unlock function that detects when your smartphone is about 7 feet away, automatically unlocking the door.

Although it would have been convenient to integrate the Ultraloq with our smart-home system, the required Wi-Fi hub is sold separately, similar to other locks we tested. However, it is compatible with Alexa and Google Home, provided the hub is installed.

It integrates seamlessly with most smart home hubs—except Zigbee—making it compatible with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, and Google Nest. Its direct WiFi connectivity simplifies pairing with your smartphone. 

Managing your home’s access is straightforward with the Sense app, allowing you to create, share, and monitor access codes easily. Codes can be sent via the app or email, and you can even schedule specific times for certain codes to function. An activity log provides a clear record of who’s accessing your home.

While the Schlage Sense has a Grade 3 ANSI security rating—the lowest among ANSI grades—it still meets the standard for typical home security. A notable drawback is the absence of geofencing, which would allow the lock to automatically unlock as you approach. However, the included keypad adds convenience, and once you complete the somewhat tedious installation process, you’re set for good.

Over the years, we’ve tested and installed several Eufy security products, including cameras and motion-detection floodlights, so we’ve come to trust the brand’s high-quality offerings. Since we already had the Eufy app on our smartphone, setting up the Eufy smart lock was a breeze. 

After installing the lock and activating it with batteries, the app immediately detected the device. Guided by the app, we quickly set a security code and added our fingerprints to the lock’s memory. Once configured, the lock performed flawlessly during testing. We successfully unlocked it using both the fingerprint scanner and the security code. 

Additionally, voice control through our Alexa system worked seamlessly, allowing us to lock and unlock the door remotely. The lock’s doorbell function connects wirelessly to an indoor chime module that plugs into a standard outlet, and the accompanying camera delivered crisp video footage on our smartphone.

In addition to its excellent Alexa compatibility, the Schlage Encode stands out for its security. 

The physical lock cylinder boasts a BHMA Grade 1 certification, which is stronger than most residential locks. However, it lacks a weatherproof rating, which could be a drawback for outdoor use. To alleviate concerns about durability, Schlage offers a three-year warranty for the electronic components and a limited lifetime warranty for the mechanical parts, offering peace of mind despite the absence of dust and water protection ratings.
