#1. ULTRALOQ U-Bolt Pro, 7-in-1 Smart Lock.
The Ultraloq smart lock uses Bluetooth and a dedicated app to lock and unlock your door from a smartphone. It can also connect to a home network via Wi-Fi, but this requires purchasing a separate hub, which was not available for our testing. Installation was straightforward on an exterior door with an existing deadbolt.

We downloaded the app by scanning a QR code in the user manual, and the app guided us through the setup process. Like other smart locks we tested, the Ultraloq offers reliable functionality, but we particularly appreciated its sleek design. The keypad features numbered buttons arranged in a circle around a fingerprint scanner at the center.
Additionally, the bright green light that illuminates the keys when touched makes it easy to use, even in low light. One of the standout features is the adjustable auto-lock timer, which we set to automatically lock the door 30 seconds after closing. The Ultraloq also includes an auto-unlock function that detects when your smartphone is about 7 feet away, automatically unlocking the door.
Although it would have been convenient to integrate the Ultraloq with our smart-home system, the required Wi-Fi hub is sold separately, similar to other locks we tested. However, it is compatible with Alexa and Google Home, provided the hub is installed.

The lock operates smoothly and silently via the August app, which also allows you to manage multiple August locks across various locations and customize access levels for others. A standout feature is its auto-unlock capability, which senses your proximity and unlocks the door as you approach.
Once inside, the lock automatically re-engages behind you—perfect when your hands are full. Additionally, the app lets you grant remote access, making it ideal for welcoming guests, receiving package deliveries, or handling emergencies when you’re away. Despite minor drawbacks, the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock stands out as our top pick among the smart locks we’ve tested.
#3. SCHLAGE BE469ZP CEN 716 Connect Smart Deadbolt.
If you’re searching for a feature-packed smart lock, the Schlage Sense with WiFi Adapter might be exactly what you need. Managing your home’s access is straightforward with the Sense app, allowing you to create, share, and monitor access codes easily. Codes can be sent via the app or email, and you can even schedule specific times for certain codes to function. An activity log provides a clear record of who’s accessing your home.
While the Schlage Sense has a Grade 3 ANSI security rating—the lowest among ANSI grades—it still meets the standard for typical home security. A notable drawback is the absence of geofencing, which would allow the lock to automatically unlock as you approach. However, the included keypad adds convenience, and once you complete the somewhat tedious installation process, you’re set for good.
Despite these minor issues, the Schlage Sense is an excellent choice for those who want a smart lock with a comprehensive suite of features. If ease of installation and a higher security rating are top priorities, you might consider the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock instead.

After installing the lock and activating it with batteries, the app immediately detected the device. Guided by the app, we quickly set a security code and added our fingerprints to the lock’s memory. Once configured, the lock performed flawlessly during testing. We successfully unlocked it using both the fingerprint scanner and the security code.
Additionally, voice control through our Alexa system worked seamlessly, allowing us to lock and unlock the door remotely. The lock’s doorbell function connects wirelessly to an indoor chime module that plugs into a standard outlet, and the accompanying camera delivered crisp video footage on our smartphone.
The only drawback we noticed was the night vision occasionally activating unnecessarily due to shadows cast by our closed storm door. Overall, the Eufy smart lock impressed us with its straightforward installation, smooth syncing, and reliable operation, making it an excellent choice for smart home security.
#5. Schlage Encode Smart Wi-Fi Deadbolt.
The Schlage Encode is our top choice for a smart lock to use with Alexa, as it offers seamless integration with Alexa right out of the box—provided you have at least one Echo smart speaker. You can also use Alexa to lock and unlock the door, with a security code required for unlocking. While like most Wi-Fi smart locks, it does face battery life challenges, we appreciate the option to have fresh batteries delivered when needed. In addition to its excellent Alexa compatibility, the Schlage Encode stands out for its security.
The physical lock cylinder boasts a BHMA Grade 1 certification, which is stronger than most residential locks. However, it lacks a weatherproof rating, which could be a drawback for outdoor use. To alleviate concerns about durability, Schlage offers a three-year warranty for the electronic components and a limited lifetime warranty for the mechanical parts, offering peace of mind despite the absence of dust and water protection ratings.
Conclusion

With features like remote access, voice control, and customizable entry options, these locks redefine home safety. Whether you’re upgrading your current system or building a smart home, a reliable smart lock ensures peace of mind while adding a touch of innovation to your everyday life.
